Project description
As the builder and owner, the Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft constructed Module 2 on the MED CAMPUS in Graz on behalf of the Medical University. Following its completion, which is planned for 2022, this new building will be connected with Module 1, which was finished in 2017, via a bridge constructed last August. The pedestrian and cycling bridge over Stiftingtalstrasse will unite the various schools in the two modules to form a modern campus.
Daninger + Partner was commissioned by the lead construction company to carry out site planning and detailed structural engineering for a bridge support structure, incl. a temporary retaining structure and a support structure for assembly. Construction planning had to allow for the fact that the steel construction would be delivered in three pieces, each around 25 metres in length and weighing 65 tons, and that they would have to be lifted into place with mobile cranes on supports. Our task was divided into three parts:
- Supports with assembly braces
- Outer bridge elements 1 and 2 as a box girder construction, cantilever beam and soffit cladding for on-site screwing and lifting together with box girder
- Middle bridge element 3 as a box girder construction
All components were mounted, screwed, welded and finished on site.
